🇫🇷2026 tax year

France Salary Calculator

France applies a progressive income tax (0% to 45%) through its signature quotient familial — your household income is divided by a number of parts based on your family situation, so couples and families pay less. Before income tax, employees pay social contributions of roughly 22% (retraite, CSG and CRDS), and income tax itself is withheld at source (prélèvement à la source). A décote further reduces tax for lower incomes.

  • Quotient familial: 1 part single, 2 married/PACS, +0.5 per child (capped at €1,807/half-part)

France salary tax — frequently asked questions

How does the quotient familial reduce my tax in France?

France divides your taxable income by a number of 'parts' — 1 for a single person, 2 for a married or PACS couple, plus half a part for each of your first two children (a full part from the third). The progressive scale is applied to that smaller per-part income and then multiplied back up, so larger households pay proportionally less. The advantage from children is capped (plafonnement) at €1,807 per half-part.

How much is taken off my gross salary in France?

Employee social contributions are roughly 22% of gross for a non-cadre (a cadre pays slightly more), covering pension (retraite), Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension, and the CSG/CRDS. Income tax is then withheld at source on top. Enter your gross above for an exact breakdown.

What is the décote?

The décote automatically lowers income tax for people with modest tax bills. In 2026 it equals €897 (single) or €1,483 (couple) minus 45.25% of your gross tax, so smaller tax amounts are reduced — sometimes to zero. The calculator applies it automatically.

Can it calculate micro-entrepreneur (auto-entrepreneur) income?

Yes. Switch to Freelancer to model the micro-BNC regime: 25.6% URSSAF social contributions on revenue and income tax on 66% of revenue (after the 34% abattement), VAT-exempt below the franchise threshold. You can also model the régime réel with real expenses.
